These are the 3 patterns in which I am going to hand render.

Rotation and Tessellation
These patterns were generated using a specific area of the first font featured: I rotated and tessellated them to create visually aesthetic forms.
Appearance, Tone of Voice, Mood
I then chose three fonts which altered the appearance, tone of voice and mood of the word. I then chose a specific area of each word in which to experiment with and eventually hand render.
My Word
Miscellaneous
Mis – cel – la – ne – ous
I chose the
word miscellaneous because I think it is relevant to me, how I work and who I
am.
The works of
other artists which I am inspired by are nearly always installation based,
composed of a variety of objects and mediums. My own studio practice reflects
this as I work within several mediums whilst sourcing reference material from different
avenues, not always creatively based. I like installations such as Supermarket
Sarah’s ‘walls’ of miscellaneous objects as it has so much character and life
because of the stories each item has to tell.
A
miscellaneous collection of objects is much more interesting and visually
exciting than a clinical approach, which I believe takes the life and colour
out of art. With this in mind it comes as no surprise that I manipulate my
briefs to fit my style of working and adapt its requirements in my own way.
Responding Through Design - Designing with Type
Welcome to the beautiful world of typogaphy. There is so much more to it than banging on a keyboard. The written word can, visually, come to life in the hands of a skilled typographer. It can emphasise tone of voice, mood and movement. We all experience typography, directly or indirectly, every day of our lives and this assignment has been created to demonstrate how type styling and an awareness of positive and negative space can change the look, feel and dynamic of a word. This project consists of 3 parts and will be preceded by an introductory workshop.
